WMSWCD Board Members Remove Ivy

WMSWCD Board Chairman Brian Lightcap, Vice-Chairwoman Jane Hartline,

WMSWCD Board Members and Volunteers at the Forest Park Conservancy Strewardship Day

and board member Marshall Miller joined Forest Park Conservancy volunteers for ivy removal work off Newberry Road in NW Portland. WMSWCD sponsored a site for the Conservancy's annual Day of Stewardship.

The group removed ivy from approximately 2 dozen trees and from the ground, and even took out some small holly trees. Ivy will grow up tree trucks and eventually kill the trees. Holly and ivy, listed as invasive species, both take over forest understory; crowding out native plants. The Conservancy's Day of Stewardship drew a total of about 200 volunteers at 4-5 sites.
