Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
Contracts Awarded
Two landowners are now signed up to receive financial support from WMSWCD's federal partner, Natural Resource Conservation Service, for livestock-related conservation practices. One EQIP contract goes to a horse stable to help replace a hard-to-manage manure pile with a tailor-made manure storage shed. The other financial award goes to a farm with organic beef cattle to help install hardened areas where the livestock gather. The conservation practices at both farms will curtail the mud and protect animal health and water quality. The District is also helping the landowners develop comprehensive plans to manage animal waste nutrients, which make good fertilizer and don't impair water quality if applied correctly. Together the landowners are receiving over $30,000 in federal financial assistance, plus additional grant money. For help with your livestock issues contact Kammy Kern-Korot, Senior Conservationist; kammy@wmswcd.org or Scott Gall, Rural Conservationist; scott@wmswcd.org.
