A Meet Market!
Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest right now there is a food buyer trying to find the perfect parsnip and a farmer looking for a home for his cranberries. Luckily, buying and selling food in the Pacific Northwest just got a whole lot easier.
Ecotrust is pleased to announce the arrival of FoodHub, a new online resource that makes it easy and efficient for regional food buyers and sellers to connect.
FoodHub is designed to be a one-stop shop for the chef who needs six dozen artichokes for a menu special, the baker looking for a local source for flour, and the large institutional food buyer whose purchasing power could significantly stabilize a family farm.
Regional food at your fingertips
For food sellers of all types—farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and food manufacturers—FoodHub offers an easy way to let buyers know which of your products are available and how to make contact to complete a sale. For food buyers—including restaurants, public schools, grocery stores, caterers, universities, and hospitals—FoodHub provides a robust and easily searchable database of food products.
Buyers can instantly discover ready suppliers with a few clicks of their computer keyboard and sellers can use FoodHub to identify new buyer leads and build targeted customer databases. All those registered on FoodHub complete an online profile that includes a detailed description of their operation and preferred methods for doing business. FoodHub supports both direct market relationships and leverages existing distribution channels to encourage growth in regional food sales.
Now is the time to join
Intended for buyers and sellers in Oregon and Washington and all neighboring states, FoodHub is offering a $20 rebate off the $100 annual membership fee to those who join before January 31st, 2010. In addition, Food Services of America (FSA) is offering an additional $20 rebate to select FSA restaurants and schools. Learn more at food-hub.org.
